Bobby Wagner Wants Play In 2022, Future With Seahawks Uncertain

Dec 30, 2021 2:20 PM

Bobby Wagner wants to continue his playing career in 2022, but admits his future is uncertain with the Seattle Seahawks.

Wagner is the final defensive player still with the Seahawks from their Legion of Boom run. Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett left the team following the 2017 season, while Earl Thomas departed in 2018, and K.J. Wright left after 2020.

“You think about it,” Wagner said Wednesday. “You think about what the next year looks like, and just, period, what the future holds because this was a season that I don’t think we all planned for. We didn’t plan for the season to go this way. And so obviously there’s going to be some changes. And whether or not I’m part of those changes, I don’t know. But all I can control is these last two games. And you know, figure it out from there, whatever the team thinks is the best thing to do moving forward. We’ll see how that plays out.”

Ben Roethlisberger Acknowledges Monday Likely Final Home Game

Dec 31, 2021 11:55 AM

Ben Roethlisberger acknowledged that Monday's game against the Cleveland Browns will likely be his final home game with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"Looking at the bigger picture, I would say all signs are pointing to this could be it -- regular season, that is," Roethlisberger said Thursday. "I know we still have a chance to potentially get a playoff game there if things fall our way and we take care of business and things have to happen. In the grand scheme of things, in terms of regular seasons, signs are pointing that way that this could be it."

Roethlisberger returned to the Steelers in 2021 after taking a pay reduction.

Aaron Rodgers Expects Quick Decision On Playing Future In Offseason

Dec 30, 2021 2:08 PM

Aaron Rodgers said he anticipates a quick resolution to his playing future this offseason. Rodgers left open the possibilities of returning to the Green Bay Packers, playing for another team, or retiring.

"It won't be something where I'll drag it out for months and months," Rodgers said at the end of a lengthy answer about his future.

"I'm not going to hold the team back from anything," Rodgers said. "And once I commit -- and if it's committing to move forward here -- it will be a quick decision."

Nearly a year ago, Rodgers called his future with the Packers a "beautiful mystery."

While Rodgers said he "wouldn't rule that out" when asked about retirement, he said: "This has been one of my favorite years of football."

"I think that I'm just enjoying this season for this season and I think playing next year will definitely be in the thought process," Rodgers said. "One of the things that obviously [Rodgers wants is] to not be a bum on the way out and to still be able to play. I think is important to me. If this year has taught me anything, it's that I still can play, I still have a love for the game, I'm still super competitive and still enjoy the process of the week."

Josh McDaniels Not Worried About Mac Jones Hitting Rookie Wall

Dec 30, 2021 2:40 PM

Mac Jones has struggled the past two games, but Josh McDaniels isn't worried about the rookie quarterback hitting the rookie wall.

Jones has completed just 52 percent of his passes and thrown four interceptions in back-to-back losses.

"He's doing fine, no concern on that," McDaniels said of Jones hitting the rookie wall.

"Each rookie kind of handles that differently, there's always a stretch during the course of the middle of the season that's a little bit new to them. Because when you count the preseason, starting in July, usually that happens somewhere towards the end of October, middle of November, somewhere in there. He's gotten through that, he understands what he needs to do and does a great job with his regimen, takes care of his body, his preparation, he's learned how to manage his time and what he needs to allocate it towards."

Since Week 13, Sony Michel leads the NFL with 423 rushing yards and the Los Angeles Rams plan to keep riding him.

"Sony has that (mindset) where 'I can't stop chugging along,'" defensive lineman A'Shawn Robinson said. "He's like a choo-choo train. It's just 'choooo! choooo!'"

Michel has generated 115 scrimmage yards in three of his last four games, and the Rams have averaged 124.8 rushing yards per game during their four-game win streak.

Eagles Separate QBs To Protect Against COVID

Dec 30, 2021 2:40 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles are keeping quarterbacks Jalen Hurts, Gardner Minshew and Reid Sinnett in separate rooms at the NovaCare Complex amid the surge in coronavirus cases across the country and the NFL.

"We're going to make some adjustments. I'm not there 100% yet because I don't have to be quite yet with the players not being back yet, but we're going to definitely make even more adjustments than what we need to just keep everybody safe," Nick Sirianni said. "The quarterbacks will be in separate rooms. We're going to be even more safe with them being in separate rooms."

The Eagles' quarterback meetings are now entirely virtual. That not only keeps the quarterbacks apart, but also Sirianni and offensive coordinator Shane Steichen -- the offensive playcallers -- in separate rooms.

All three quarterbacks will continue to attend practices.

Pete Carroll Advocates Against Major Rebuild For Seahawks

Dec 28, 2021 8:10 AM

Pete Carroll is advocating for a retool instead of a rebuild for the Seattle Seahawks.

"Not for one reason at all am I thinking that we have to restart this whole thing and create a new philosophy and a new approach and all that," he told 710 ESPN Seattle on Monday. "I don't think that. I think we've got the essence of the things that we need. We've got to build on them, we've got to support it better and we've got to continue to grow and progress. There ain't no standing still, but there's the foundation for doing things."

Carroll volunteered that thought when asked a general question on his weekly radio show about the team's future.

This will be only the third season in which the Seahawks will miss the playoffs.

"Absolutely," he said when asked about 2022. "Just the direct, short answer there, absolutely."

Fangio is 19-28 in three seasons with the Broncos, but this is the first season he has worked with general manager George Paton, who was hired in January.
